Before you pay

What to check before you buy

  1. 1

Is the medication in the price?

Many programs charge a monthly membership and bill hormones on top (Hone, LifeMD, Ivim, Sesame). Others price each product with the doctor included (Winona, Musely, Gala). Compare the total, not the membership.

  2. 2

    FDA-approved or compounded?

FDA-approved estradiol and progesterone are tested for dose and purity. Compounded bioidentical creams are not FDA-approved, and the FDA-commissioned National Academies review found a lack of rigorous evidence for them. Every card here says which you get.

  3. 3

Will insurance pay for any of it?

Generic estradiol and progesterone are often covered at your own pharmacy. Telehealth memberships usually are not. A few programs bill insurance for the visit itself (Found, PlushCare, some LifeMD plans).

  4. 4

    Labs: included, extra or skipped?

Most menopause programs don't require blood tests to start. Some include monitoring (Hone runs quarterly labs), others order them only when needed and don't say what they cost.

  5. 5

    Read the cancellation terms

Refill orders are often final sale, some programs need notice days before billing, and a few charge the membership in months you don't order medication.

  6. 6

    Check your state first

Not every program prescribes everywhere: Winona serves 37 states, Hone 33. Programs that don't publish a list tell you at sign-up.

FDA-approved vs compounded hormones

FDA-approved estradiol and progesterone are tested for dose and purity. Compounded bioidentical hormones are mixed by a pharmacy and are not FDA-approved as finished products. In November 2025 the FDA began removing the broad boxed warnings from approved menopause hormone therapy, keeping the endometrial cancer warning for estrogen-alone products.

Start the quiz

We check the record

Before a program is listed we search FDA warning letters, note whether it dispenses FDA-approved or compounded drugs, and say who prescribes. What we find goes on its review.

We read the source

Every price comes from the program's own pricing page, with the link and the date we checked it.

We add the hidden costs

Labs, membership and consult fees are folded in, so the monthly number is what leaves your account.

Scores are not for sale

Each score is computed from five published criteria. What a program pays us changes nothing; Winona scores 9.2 on the same scale as everyone else.

Questions people ask

How much does online menopause treatment cost?

It depends on whether you pay a membership, whether medication is included, and whether insurance covers the visit. Our price table shows each program's lowest published plan and links to its source.

Is compounded bioidentical HRT safer than FDA-approved HRT?

There is no good evidence that it is. FDA-approved estradiol and progesterone are tested for dose and purity; compounded mixes are not approved as finished products. See our guide for the details and sources.

Can I get HRT prescribed online?

Yes. Licensed clinicians prescribe menopause hormone therapy by telehealth in most states after a consultation and health history.

Does insurance cover menopause hormone therapy?

Many plans cover FDA-approved estradiol and progesterone as generics. Membership fees for telehealth programs are usually not covered; some programs bill insurance for the visit.
